This painting was inspired by a trip to the mountains of southwest Colorado as the aspens were turning. Before taking this trip, I had almost decided to stop painting landscapes and to concentrate only on abstract subjects.

However, the beauty of the mountains and the rivers and the trees turning in the Fall just blew me away. I couldn't wait to return to my studio and start painting. OCTOBER AFTERNOON was the first painting that I did after this trip, and I am really pleased with the way that it turned out.
